The Natural Classroom is a cornerstone of the Curious Minds Learning Center experience. Through our partnership with the Richardson Bay Audubon Sanctuary in Tiburon, children enjoy a weekly outdoor excursion that nurtures curiosity, confidence, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Inspired by the research of Richard Louv (Last Child in the Woods) and David Sobel (Childhood and Nature: Design Principles for Educators), this program allows children to make sense of their world through hands-on, outdoor experiences. Here, children engage in physical challenges, imaginative play, and interactions with animal allies, while developing a strong sense of place and belonging by returning to the sanctuary week after week.

The Natural Classroom encourages children to explore freely and follow their interests. As with all elements of our curriculum, learning is emergent—shaped by the observations, curiosities, and discoveries of the children themselves. Each child carries a small daypack with a snack or lunch and a water bottle, giving them independence and responsibility as they explore.
